After The Rain

Concert Band Level 1

4/4 and 2/4 time, Bb Major

After a week of furious thunderstorms finally let up, I was inspired by the calm after the storm to write this piece.

Written for concert band level one, “After The Rain” centers around a simple melody, lush chords and orchestration, and is written to be playable by very young bands. The notes stick mostly to the first six notes learned in band (concert Bb, C, D, Eb, F, and G) with some departures for interest. Brass ranges do not go above concert G, all clarinets stay below the break, and french horn and tuba parts are cross-cued. The percussion is musically relevant but simple, and the bells part was written to give a developing mallet player something that was important, yet was also not very difficult.

I hope you enjoy “After The Rain”!
